I really love the depth perception caused by the coloring, with the castle afar. It really does give a feeling of the story about to begin (or continue in the next sequel) as ashigaru said.

I'll also agree with garmr. After the wonderful effect of the mist faded, the sign in the foreground and the instruments on their backs seemed to be flattened 2D objects. The perspective on the two signs could be fixed so that they actually look like they're pointing a little towards us, since they are attached to the front of the post. And it looks, based on the direction their heading, like I should be able to see the edge of the autoharp and the butt of the lute.

Looking at this makes me happy. I like how the players are clear and the castle is foggy as they travel in to the fairy tale.

:D Is there anywhere we can hear a preview of the CD?

Kilts and stringed instruments, mountains in the background, and adventure in the air. What could be better? And represented so well in your art.

Now I see what you mean by depth; the high contrast coloring of the boys definately causes them to advance in space. They turned out really well (though a bit flat). A touch darker space under the bushes at the base of the sign might help keep that element parallel w/ the bards.

When considering this as a stand-alone piece, I'm not as enamored with the hue saturation of the greens and the blues of the grass and sky, but having seen the front cover, I think you're ok.

I will try to remember to post the version that has not been watermarked to allow for text. Things balance a little better in that one, even if the bards don't advance in space as much. I think the parchment assists in flattening the image a bit. I like the effect though. :)

Nicely done! The parchment effect gives a good feel to the work, and the fade to the background implies stories yet to be told...

I am impressed!
