In Memory by Skyejcb In Memory by Skyejcb
My dear friend, Jackie, who passed away earlier this year due to a mistake made during an elective surgery to assist in her weight-loss goals.
Being big is miserable, I know from personal experience with it. However, I'd rather have kept Jackie with all her weight than lose her.
Sometimes the biggest people are the most beautiful.

This piece has been commissioned by her mother.

Sure do miss you, Jack'.

Wow, that's a really beautiful tribute. Lovely pencil rendering. I'm sure her mother greatly appreciated it...

Thank you, sweetie! At least once while drawing her I looked upon the portrait you did of me for inspiration. So...thanks :)

Was it from a gastric bypass? My partner, Leslie, had one three years ago. I didn't know it could be fatal. I'm sorry to hear about it; your picture was a great tribute.

Not exactly gastric bypass. It was "lap-band" surgery, where an elastic band is placed around a portion of the stomach to restrict the amount of contents it will hold (and is reversable later, if the patient so desires). The problem wasn't with the surgery itself, you see...but to do the surgery they must first inflate the stomach with gas to expand it. As the surgeon was inserting a needle to do this, he missed the stomach and pierced Jackie's aorta (main blood vessel from the heart) and she bled to death before the procedure had even begun.

Thank you for your compliment on the piece!

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Having lost my best friend several years ago to cancer, I can understand your feelings. This is a first-rate portrait, absolutely beautiful and lifelike. Those eyes are incredible and full of feeling. You have made something beautiful out of a terrible tragedy.

Sorry to have been so late on commenting on this, been busy with work. First, may I say, I am deeply sorry that you've lost a friend, especially to a mistake. That's just terrible. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her family. :cling: Secondly, may I say, it's just gorgeous. You are going to make her family very happy with this warm and loving tribute to their beloved relative. Excellent work.

Being busy is understandable. No need for apologies! :aww:
Jackie was lost to us in April and doing this piece is a bit of therapy for me - as well as for her family.

As for the quality of the work - such praise from you definitely means a lot to me. Abe (garmr) has been urging me to revisit realism for a while to sharpen my skills a bit and I can see that I've needed it.

Looks very photorealistic to me... at least, if the subject is wearing a lot of make-up, which she may be.

Sad tale.

It was her wedding day and, as was her way, she went all out on such occasions.
Thanks Jimmy.

A hard task, but perhaps a bit of closure. It's good that you've been blessed with some recent joy, to balance your trials this year.

Oh my god...
Thats terrible. My mother lost a life long friend in the same way.
This is a nice way to honor her memory.

Maybe you should give it to her mom.
I think she would like that. :)
